TRANSIT INFORMATION

As per the norm, Customs and Immigration Check is done at the First Port (city) of Arrival in India and the Last Port (city) of Departure from India. These are also called Gateway Point.

However, you may avail some unique and exclusive benefits when you travel by Air India to an International destination from an interior point within India or vice-versa.

Air India passengers can avail the facilities to complete Custom and Immigration Check at the Last Port of Arrival and First Port of Departure in India as per the applicable conditions highlighted below.

Arriving in India

When you arrive into India and have an onward connection to another station within India.....

On a flight that has the number in the range of AI010 – AI399 or AI900 to AI999

  • At the Departure station you would be issued with two Boarding Passes one till the Gateway Point and the second from Gateway Point to Interior Point (final Destination) with "T” Indicator printed on it.
  • Your baggage would also be tagged to the final destination.
  • At the Gateway Point, you may proceed directly to departure gate at least 45 minutes prior to departure and need not pass through immigration and Customs.
  • You may collect your baggage and complete Customs and Immigration Check formalities at the final destination.

On a flight that has the number in the range of AI400 – AI899

  • At the departure station you would be issued with two Boarding Passes one till the Gateway Point and the second from Gateway Point to Interior Point (final Destination).
  • Your baggage would also be tagged to the final destination.
  • At the Gateway Point, complete Immigration Check collect you baggage and complete Customs formalities and proceed to domestic departure lounge.
  • Contact the Baggage Drop/Check-in counter to hand over your baggage.

Departing from India

When you arrive at the Gateway Point from an interior station to connect an international station operated by Air India

On a flight that has the number in the range of AI010 – AI399 or AI900 to AI999

  • At the origin station (Interior Point), you will be issued with two Boarding Passes one for origin to Gateway Point with "I” indicator printed on it and the second from Gateway Point to Final International Destination with "T” indicator printed on it.
  • Your baggage would also be tagged to the final destination.
  • Proceed to complete Immigration and Customs Check formalities at the station of origin (interior station) itself.
  • At the Gateway Point you will arrive at international terminal and you may proceed directly to International Departure gate through Transit area.
  • Your Baggage would be directly transferred to the International Flight.

On a flight that has the number in the range of AI400 – AI899

  • At the origin station (Interior Point), you will be issued with two Boarding Passes one for origin to Gateway Point and the second from Gateway Point to Final International Destination.
  • Your baggage would also be tagged to the final destination.
  • At the Gateway Point you will arrive at domestic terminal and you may proceed to the international terminal/departure lounge to complete Immigration and Customs Check formalities.
  • Your Baggage would be directly transferred to the International Flight.
  • Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact Air India Transfer/Check-in Desk.

Transiting through India

When you arrive into Gateway Point in India and have an onward connection to another international destination by any international carrier

  • You may remain in direct transit at the terminal or proceed directly to departure area, depending upon onward flight timings and as per the specific airport procedure.
  • You are not allowed to proceed or pass through immigration and Customs unless you fulfil other requisite criteria.
  • Should you require any assistance you may contact the Air India "International Transfer Desk” Terminal.
