Concessions for India’s Armed Forces

Members and veterans of India’s armed forces—as well as eligible family members—receive a discount on domestic and select international short haul flights. The discount amount, which varies based on travel dates, will be clearly displayed during the booking process.

Eligibility

Active and retired military personnel of Indian Armed Forces, including but not limited to: 

  • Army
  • Navy
  • Air Force
  • Paramilitary
  • General Reserve Engineering Force
  • Coast Guard 
  • Border Roads Organisation
  • Central Armed Police Forces
  • Special Frontier Force
  • Officers disabled in war
  • Recipients of highest bravery awards
  • Various inter-service commands and institutions

The following family members of the above personnel will also be considered:

  • Spouse
  • Dependent children between 2 and 26 years of age 
    • Married children are not eligible
    • Discount for children may not be combined with any additional discount
    • Children under 2 will be considered infants. One infant can travel for INR 1,250, plus taxes. No more than one infant is eligible for a discount.
  • Dependent parents
  • War widows and widows of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Assam Rifles (AR), and Central Police Organizations (CPOs)
Required ID

Identity verification is mandatory, and passengers must carry proof of identification throughout the journey. Acceptable proof of identity includes: 

  • Official ID card issued to active and retired personnel
  • Dependent ID card issued to family members of active and retired personnel
  • Armed Forces widows require an ID card issued by the Ministry of Defence
  • Widows of CAPF, AR, and CPOs require an Operational Casualty Certificate issued by Directorate General of concerned force
Concession

Discount will be applied to base airfare for all routes within India territory, for travel in economy, premium economy and business classes.Discounts vary based on travel dates and will be clearly displayed during the booking process. Discounts are valid on both one-way and round-trip bookings.

To qualify for this discount, travellers must book tickets at least three days before the date of departure and must be travelling at their own expense.

Standard fees apply for flight changes, cancellations, or refunds.

Concessionary fares are available only on flight operated by Air India and do not apply to Air India Express codeshare flights.

Eligibility

Active and ex-military personnel of the Indian Armed Forces who have received the highest bravery awards - level I, II and III.

(a) Post-independence Awards

  • Level I: Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra
  • Level II: Mahavir Chakra and Kirti Chakra
  • Level III: Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakra

(b) Pre-independence Awards

  • Level l: Victoria Cross, and George Cross
  • Level ll: Distinguished Service Cross, Military Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, and George Medal
Required documents

  • Official ID card issued by Army, Navy, or Air Force Headquarters

Validity of ticket

The tickets are valid up to one year from the date of issuance.

Advance purchase of ticket 

Travellers using this discount need to buy the tickets at least three days before the date of departure.

Infant 
  • Children within 2 years of age will be considered as infant.
  •  No discount is permissible on second or more infants.
Ticket updates

A fee is applicable for date/flight changes, flight cancellations and refunds.

Additional Information
  • If relevant ID or documents are not presented at check-in or at the boarding gate, a basic fare will be deducted. The tickets will become non-refundable (only taxes and levies will be refunded) and boarding will be denied. 
  • Concessionary fares are applicable on Air India flights only.
  • Concessionary fares are not applicable on Air India Express codeshare domestic flights.

Eligibility 
  • People deployed as ‘active’ personnel of the General Reserve Engineering Force.  
  • The personnel must be travelling at their own expense. 
  • Family members of the personnel deployed as ‘active’ General Reserve Engineering Force personnel. The family includes a spouse, dependent children (between 2 to 26 years of age), and dependent parents. 
  • Married children are not eligible for this discount.

  • Official ID card issued to serving personnel 
  • Dependent ID card issued to family members of serving personnel

Eligibility  

Personnel of paramilitary forces who are in active service and travelling at their own expense.  

Paramilitary forces of India include BSF, ITBP, CISF, CRPF, RPF, NSG, SSB, Coast Guards, Assam Rifles, and IB 

Family members of the personnel of paramilitary forces who are in active service.  

Family members include a spouse, dependent children (between 2 to 26 years of age), and dependent parents. 

Married children are not eligible for this discount. 

Required documents 

Official ID card issued by Army, Navy, or Air Force Headquarters

This is applicable in all sectors in India.

Officers disabled at war, their family members including a spouse, dependent children between 2 and 26 years of age, and dependent parents only. Married children are not considered for the family concession and will have to travel at their own expense.

  • Travel: Applicable on any domestic route within India for flights operated by Air India.
  • Advance reservation and ticketing:
  • Sale and travel validity: Effective from 01 November 2022 until further notice.
  • Discount is valid on both one-way and round-trip bookings.
  • Fare rules for cancellations, refunds, rebooking, and reissues as per the respective cabin class will apply.
  • Concessional fares are subject to availability of seats.
  • The tickets are non-endorsable, non-reroutable.
  • No name changes are permitted.
  • Proper verification of valid ID/documents: 
    • Identity verification is MANDATORY and will be carried out at the time of ticketing at a city ticketing office or airport ticketing office and again at check-in points at the airport.
    • Passengers must carry proof of identification throughout the journey. No one has the authority to waive the condition of documentation check. 
    • Boarding will be denied if identity proof is not provided at the boarding gate. 
    • Airport managers and duty managers undertake surprise checks. 
    • If required ID/documents are not presented when requested, the basic fare will be forfeited, and the ticket/s will become non-refundable. Only taxes and levies will be refunded.
  • Free baggage allowance of 25 kg is applicable.
