PRESS STATEMENT #1: AIR INDIA FLIGHT ABC 1111

Air India regretfully confirms that flight ABC 1111, which departed Delhi at 0930 hrs today for Colombo, has been hijacked. The flight was diverted to Coimbatore and has landed at 1200 hrs local time.

Our immediate concern is the safety of the 141 passengers and crew on board. We are working closely with the Government of India and all other regulatory and security agencies to ascertain further details and are providing all cooperation to them.

We have a dedicated team on standby to provide any assistance that passengers and crew members may require at Coimbatore airport.

Assistance centres are being established at Delhi, Colombo and Coimbatore airports, where families and loved ones of our passengers and crew will be provided necessary support. Arrangements are also being made to fly them to Coimbatore. They can also reach us for more information at the dedicated hotline number 1800 5691 444.
