Air India’s fleet upgradation programme will see a phased refurbishment of 27 single-aisle and 40 twin-aisle aircraft. We decode the programme, and how we’re working towards enhancing the flying experience for customers.
While we await new aircraft deliveries, our entire fleet of legacy single-aisle and twin-aisle aircraft is undergoing a USD 400 million comprehensive retrofit programme. What this means is refurbishing old aircraft in our fleet to install new seats in a three-class cabin configuration, carpets, curtains, lavatories, and more along with a fresh coat of paint, new livery – all in the new Air India branding.
Our fleet is getting a makeover
A consistent product and service experience
The retrofit programme is an important step forward in Air India’s transformation journey. As we advance, it will help provide a consistent experience across the fleet with a three-class cabin configuration with luxurious Business Class seats, India’s only Premium Economy, and an enhanced Economy cabin. At present, more than 50% (106 of 198) of the Air India aircraft offer new or upgraded cabin interiors. And progressively more aircraft will be upgraded.
