Air India terminal changes at Delhi Airport: What you need to know and how you can prepare

If you are flying out of Delhi with Air India soon, here is an important update for you. Starting 26 October 2025, some of Air India’s domestic flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will move from Terminal 3 (T3) to Terminal 2 (T2).  To note again – only some domestic flights will operate from T2, not all.

This is happening due to the ongoing terminal enlargement activities at T3 by Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) to augment international passenger capacity.

But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know, to make your journey smooth and stress-free.

What’s changing and what’s not changing?

• Air India is moving 60 of its daily domestic flights at Delhi to T2
• 120 other daily domestic flights at Delhi will continue to operate from T3
• All international flights will continue to operate from T3

Domestic flights moving to T2

• Air India flights moving to T2 have been renumbered to ‘AI-1XXX’
• If your domestic flight number has four digits and begins with ‘1’, then your flight departs from or arrives at Delhi T2 (for example, AI1737)
• If your flight number does not follow this format, it will operate from T3

Always double-check your terminal before heading to the airport via the Air India website, mobile app, or reach out to our customer care team. Terminal information is also printed on your ticket for ease of access.

Travelling between terminals:

If your itinerary involves changing flights, with a change in terminal, you have the following options to transfer between T3 and T2:

• Shuttle Service: Free airport shuttle buses run every 20 minutes between T1, T2, and T3
• Special Assistance: Passengers with reduced mobility can easily take buggy rides between T2 and T3
• Covered walkway: If preferred, you can also walk between T2 and T3 using a covered walkway that connects the Arrivals areas of the two terminals. Getting to Departures from this point is easily accessible via elevators

How long do terminal transfers take?

Allow at least 30-45 minutes for inter-terminal transfers between T1, T2, and T3. This includes waiting time and travel time. If you have a connecting flight, factor in this transfer time when planning your arrival at the airport.

What about the checked-in bags?

• For International to Domestic connections at Delhi Airport: Even if your bags are through-checked, you must collect them at arrivals, clear customs, and drop them at the T3 transfer desk before proceeding to Terminal 2 or Terminal 1. The bags will then be transferred from the airside to your connecting flight
• For Domestic to Domestic and Domestic to International connections: If your baggage is through-checked to your final destination, you do not need to collect it during transit. Your bags will automatically be transferred to your connecting flight. If you are transiting at Delhi Airport and connecting on to another flight without through-checked baggage, you need to collect your bags from the baggage belt and proceed to deposit your bags at the check-in counters after arriving at the terminal

Stay informed

• Update your contact details in your booking to receive timely notifications
• Passengers will be notified via SMS/email if their flight is affected by the terminal change
• Ground staff wearing special t-shirts will be available at all terminals to assist you
