Chennai International Airport was originally called Meenambakkam Airport. In 1985, the airport began serving domestic passengers, and in 1989, it began serving international passengers.

  • There are self-check-in kiosks and self-baggage drop counters available at both the terminals. Five kiosks are available at the domestic terminal and two at the departure hall of the international terminal.

Taxi pick-up area

  • The prepaid taxi booths are available in the arrival hall of the terminals. The pick-up area is located in the ground transportation area of the airport.

Inter-terminal connectivity

  • The two terminals are connected by a link building which has a flyover travelator.
  • Golf cart services are also available to travel between terminals. The frequency of the golf carts is every 10 minutes.

  • There are no hotels available inside the terminals, but the nearest hotel is 0.5 km from the airport.
  • There is a sleeping pod facility available at the airport. Passengers can refer to the website for bookings and more information.

Airport FAQs

Passengers at the domestic and international terminals can enjoy free Wi-Fi for 45 minutes.

To access this service, connect to the Wi-Fi and use your mobile number as the login ID. 

Please note that: 

  • A valid Indian mobile number is required to use this service. 
  • After the initial 45 minutes, the Wi-Fi service will be chargeable.

Smoking is permitted in designated areas.

Smoking zones are located in the security hold area of both terminals. 

Passengers at the Chennai International Airport can receive assistance clearing all airport formalities through meet and greet and paid porterage services. The services and their charges are as follows:

1. Clearing airport formalities like escort services, check-in, and immigration facilities.

Location: International Terminal (T2).

Charges: INR 500 per person.  

2. Porterage services and assistance with baggage.

Location: International and domestic terminals. 

Charges: INR 200 per person. 

3. Arranging transport, including hotel, motel, and guest house booking.

Charges: INR 200 per person. 

4. Arrange reservations and assist in purchasing tickets.

Charges: INR 200 per person.
