Prepay for Your Excess Baggage

Make the most of our Prepaid Baggage offer to escape last-minute airport dashes!

Any additional weight carried by a passenger beyond the allotted Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) is considered excess baggage.Take advantage of our prepaid baggage offer to pay for excess baggage ahead of time (up to six hours before the flight departure) and save more. Any passenger holding a valid e-ticket with a number starting with 098 can utilise this offer for domestic flights on Air India.

Prepaid Baggage Charges for Piece Concept

To prepay for excess baggage and receive the discounts listed below:

  • Pay online: Go to the Manage Booking tab on our homepage
  • Pay over the phone: Call customer support
  • Pay in person: Visit Air India's City Booking Offices (CTO), Airport Offices (ATO), or an authorised Air India agent.

Prepaid Baggage Charges Ex India (Prices are inclusive of 5% tax for Economy and 12% tax for Business and First class)

Terms & Conditions:

  1. Prepaid excess baggage is only applicable for multicity travel if the passenger is in transit and the baggage is through check-in.
  2. If the booking is cancelled as per fare terms, Air India will refund the amount for excess baggage booking under this scheme in full.
  3. In case of a change in date or time, the excess baggage purchased will be linked with the new flight.
  4. Prepaid excess baggage booked is non-transferable, and not applicable for an infant.
  5. Any extra weight over and above 25 kg must be paid as per the standard excess baggage rate applicable at the airport,
  6. No partial or complete refund will be made at the check-in counter for baggage weighing lower than the purchased excess baggage limit. Unutilised excess baggage weight cannot be refunded or used on subsequent or alternate flights.
  7. Refund under this scheme is permitted only if:
    a) The passenger cancels their flight booking before departure
    b) Air India cancels the flight
  8. Air India will not refund excess baggage purchased in case of a no-show.    
  9.  Excess baggage purchased must be utilised by the passenger for the booked flight and checked baggage only. This cannot be used for transportation of any cargo.
  10. If a passenger holds a return ticket and wants to purchase prepaid excess baggage for both segments in the booking, two separate payments must be made.
