Family Pool is a special feature offered by Air India for its Maharaja Club members. Family Pool lets you combine Maharaja Points earned by your family into one shared balance, helping you book your next Award Flight and Cabin Upgrades faster.
Once you join, 100% of the Maharaja Points you earn in the future will be contributed to the Family Pool. However, your existing Maharaja Points will remain in your own Maharaja Club account for you to redeem. Only the Family Head can redeem the Maharaja Points for all Family Pool members.
Family Pool allows you to consolidate your family’s Maharaja Points into a single account for easier redemption. This enables members with insufficient points or infrequent flying activities to utilise Maharaja Points.
Each member will have a different membership ID, but the Family Head can use the Points from the connected account when redeeming the points.
Any Maharaja Club member above 18 years can create a Family Pool, automatically becoming the Head of the Family Pool. This member can proceed with the creation of the pool if the condition below is met by them-
- Flown at least two (2) Air India flights in different Booking reference numbers (PNRs) credited to their account.
Once a Family Pool is created, the Maharaja Points earned in each member’s account from the date of joining and on all future bookings will be transfer to the Family head’s account who is the only authorized member to spend Maharaja Points from the shared pool.
As a Family Head, you can invite your spouse, children, parents, siblings, spouse’s parents, siblings in law, grandparents and grandchildren to join the Family Pool.
All accounts in the Family Pool should also meet the below criteria –
- Flown at least two (2) Air India flights in different Booking reference numbers (PNRs) credited to their account.
Yes, minor who is linked to a guardian's account can be added to a family pool of another member. Family head will have to send an invite to the registered email address of the minor.
The minimum age for joining a Family Pool is 2 years. However, the Family Head must be aged 18 and above to create a pool.
A minimum of two members are required - you and one other member of your family, to form a Family Pool.
A maximum of nine members, including the Family Head, can form a Family Pool.
The Family Head has to login into the account and select the Create Pool option under Family Pool. Once the payment is successful and one pool member has accepted the invitation, the Family pool will be created.
Yes, family head will have to a pay a fee of ₹500 (inclusive of 18% GST) to create a family pool.

After successful payment, the family head will get the option to add members by entering their Maharaja Club ID or email address, along with selecting the relationship to the Family head. An invitation email will then be sent to the members to join the family pool.
The invitation link will be valid for 14 days from the date of initiation, during which the members must accept the invite to be a part of the family pool.
No, once the payment for family pool creation has been made, the refund cannot be processed if the no one joins the pool.
If no one joins, you can resend the invitation link. However, if the pool remains inactivated for 60 days after creation, it will automatically dissolve.
No, this is applicable only on new Family pool creation.
Once the family pool is created, 100% of the members' future Maharaja Points (Flights and Partner Transaction) will be transferred to the Family Head's Maharaja Club ID on the day the member joins. The individual members will not earn Maharaja Points.
Please note: Only Maharaja Points will be transferred to the Family head. Tier points and Tier segment will remain in the member’s account.
If your Family Pool was created before March 11, 2026, the split ratio will be revised to 100%.
The Family Head may only redeem Maharaja Points for their family members added to the pool, only if the below conditions are met by the Head-
- Flown at least two (2) Air India flights in different Booking reference numbers (PNRs)credited to their account.
Please note: The Family Head cannot book travel for anyone outside this pool. Air India reserves the right to suspend any such travel without refund if discovered.
No, a member cannot redeem points directly from the Family Pool. The member must request the Family Head to redeem Maharaja Points.
No, members who belong to the same Family Pool cannot transfer points to each other.
No, Family Head will not have the access to the pool member’s account. The individual member’s will have access to their own account.
No. The Family Head and members can be of any nationality or residents of any country, provided they are eligible to join the Family Pool.
No, a family member who is not a member of Maharaja Club cannot be invited to join a Family Pool.
No, an individual cannot be part of more than one Family Pool at the same time.
Note: If a member attempts to start or join more than one Family Pool, it may lead to suspension of the member's Maharaja Club ID and loss of all or part of their Maharaja Points.
No, the Family Head of one Family Pool cannot be a member of any other pool.
Such activity may lead to the suspension of the Family Head’s Maharaja Club ID and loss of all or part of their Maharaja Points as per the terms and conditions.
No, the tier of the Family Head does not affect the accruals or benefits of other members in the Family Pool.
No, physical Family Pool membership cards will not be issued to the Family Head or any members.
Maharaja Points transferred to the Family Head's account are valid for two years. This validity extends whenever the Family Head or any Pool Member earns points through revenue flights after the pool's creation.
Any points remaining in a pooled member’s account prior to joining the pool maintain their original expiry dates and are not eligible for extensions based on new flight activity.
The Family Head has the sole authority over the Maharaja Points contributed to the Family Pool.
There can be a maximum of 9 members in a Family pool.
The Family Head cannot delink a pool member's account. Pool members get the option to leave the Family Pool after 1 year from joining the Family Pool. Family Head can then add more members to the vacant slot.
Members can be delinked only after they complete 1 year in the Family Pool.
Once the member is delinked, the Family Head can add another family member. Please note that a maximum of 8 members, excluding the Family Head, can be a part of the Family Pool.
No, existing members do not have to give their consent when the Family Head requests to add a new member.
Yes, members will have an option to opt out of a Family Pool account after completing one year.
No, when a member decides to leave a Family Pool account, the contributed points will remain in the pool.
In the unfortunate event of the passing of the Family Head, Maharaja Club may, at its sole discretion, transfer all or a portion to one of the pooled member’s account at once. Pooled member should raise the request through Customer Support Portal to delete the member’s account and submit the death certificate and relationship proof.
In the unfortunate event of the passing of a member, the individual’s points are transferred to the Family Head’s account. The Family Head should send a request through Customer Support Portal to delete the member’s account and submit the death certificate and relationship proof.
Yes, if the Family Head or the Pool Member is removed or decided to leave the pool, they can join or create another pool after 6 months.
No, the Family Head cannot give up the post in favour of the spouse or another family member.
No, there is no possibility of members backtracking on their consent claim.
If a member declines the invitation to join a family pool or does not provide consent, they are not added to the Family Pool.
No, a Family Head's tier will not be upgraded based on the Maharaja Points in the Family Pool. The tier status is attained based on the tier points earned or the number of flights taken by each member individually.
No, the tier of a Family Pool's member does not affect the accruals of other members in the Family Pool.
